Painting the West: From Cowboys to Countrysides

“Painting the West”, featuring original work from some of the Southwest’s most respected artists ran during August and September 2011. Many painters have been drawn to the Southwest and Arizona in particular, for the inherent natural beauty found in the region. This exhibition explores the relationship artists have had with the area and how the landscape can often inspire completely different interpretations of similar subjects, allowing for techniques ranging from photo-realism to abstraction, to near obliteration of form to emphasize emotion. While the styles may vary wildly, the overall theme remains the same – The west, both gritty and gorgeous.
